What is met (metfriend)
met, also known as metfriend, is a Polish iPhone app for meeting up with friends. It is made by Jarosław Grasza in Warsaw.
What it’s for
met turns “we must meet up sometime” into a plan for today. You drop a plan: what, where and what time. Your friends see it straight away, and whoever’s up for it taps “I’m in”. The rest happens in person.
There are three kinds of meetups in met: a plan, an event and a trip. Coffee in an hour, a match on Saturday, a gig next month or a weekend in the mountains with two spare seats in the car. Every meetup has its own chat, so the plan doesn’t drown in a group chat between photos and “so when?”.
Who sees your plans and where you are
A plan can be for friends only or public. Nobody joins a public one without asking: a request comes in first, and the author of the plan decides and sets how many places to keep for new people.
met doesn’t show your live location. You tap “I’m here” and your friends see that one place for two hours. You can take it back at any time. You add friends at the table: one person shows a code, the other scans it. The code lives for ten minutes, so a screenshot passed on won’t add anyone.
Who it’s for and where
For people who have friends but see them less often than they would like. met is on iPhone first and starts in Warsaw, where it is made. For now the app is in Polish only.
Who makes met
met is made by Jarosław Grasza, a digital product designer and developer from Warsaw. He makes it on his own: from the first sketch, through the iPhone app, to this website. His other work is in his portfolio at jaroslawgrasza.pl, and the quickest way to reach him is LinkedIn.
met or metfriend?
The app is called met. The website and the accounts online carry the name metfriend: metfriend.pl and @met_friend on Instagram. met, metfriend and MetFriend are the same project.
Other projects with a similar name
met has nothing to do with Metfriendly (Police Friendly), a British financial society for police officers.
Nor is met the Japanese App Store app “Met - MemorableDayWithFriends”, in which friends decorate a keepsake card together after meeting up.
met is not in the App Store yet, so no app called “Met” that you find there today is the one from metfriend.pl.
